Title: Apple Introduces Age Verification Tools for Developers in Response to Regional Regulations

In response to the increasing need for age checks in various regions, including the U.S., Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Utah, and Louisiana, tech giant Apple has unveiled new tools designed to assist developers in complying with their age assurance obligations under upcoming laws. These updates will be implemented across apps available on the App Store.

Starting from Tuesday, users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore who wish to download apps rated 18-plus will be required to confirm their age through "reasonable methods," which Apple can verify automatically. However, developers are also encouraged to independently confirm that their users are adults, a task they can undertake using Apple's Declared Age Range API, first introduced last year.

In addition, Apple has announced that, effective May 6th for new Apple Account users in Utah and July 1st for those in Louisiana, age categories will be shared with the developer's app when requested through the Declared Age Range API. This update aims to further facilitate compliance with regional regulations.

The Declared Age Range API also offers developers "new signals," including whether age-related regulatory requirements apply to a user and if the user is required to share their age range. Furthermore, the API will inform developers if they need to seek parental or guardian permission for significant app updates for minor users.

These updates are part of Apple's ongoing commitment to ensure compliance with regional regulations, particularly those related to age verification and protection of minors using digital platforms.
