Xiaomi Unveils Global Flagship Phones: Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra

Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship phones on a global scale, introducing the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, along with a Leica-branded limited-edition model. These devices are set to be available in the UK, Europe, and select other markets.

Pricing and Market Positioning

The Xiaomi 17 is priced at £899 / €999 (approximately $1,200), designed as a direct competitor to high-end phones like the iPhone 13 and Samsung Galaxy S26. The larger and more feature-rich Xiaomi 17 Ultra retails for £1,299 / €1,499 ($1,750). The Leica-branded Leitzphone variant is even pricier at £1,699 / €1,999 ($2,300), equipped with a staggering 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Design and Display

Both the Xiaomi 17 and Ultra feature a sleek, modern design. The 6.3-inch display on the 17 model, though not small by today's standards, gives it an elegant profile. All three rear cameras—on both the 17 and Ultra—are equipped with 50-megapixel sensors.

Performance and Battery Life

The Xiaomi 17 boasts a robust Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a substantial 6,330mAh silicon-carbon battery. During my week-long trial as a primary device, the battery managed to last past a full day of use but fell short for two consecutive days of heavy usage.

Camera Capabilities

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra stands out with its ultra-powerful camera system, featuring 50-megapixel sensors across all three main lenses. Notably, it includes an impressive periscope telephoto lens capable of delivering up to 200-megapixel resolution and continuous optical zoom from 3.2x to 4.3x.

Leica Collaboration

The Leica-branded Leitzphone version of the 17 Ultra enhances its photographic prowess through a collaboration with the renowned German optics company. This edition comes with exclusive Leica branding, filters, and a rotatable rear camera ring for precise zoom control. It also includes a special case with a lens cap and microfiber cleaning cloth.

Additional Xiaomi Announcements

Xiaomi's MWC launch lineup extends beyond just these flagship phones, including the introduction of a slim magnetic power bank, new tablets (Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro), and a smart tag compatible with both Google’s and Apple’s tech-tracking networks.
