BlackRock Launches Staking-Focused Ethereum ETF

BlackRock采取谨慎态度进入加密ETF市场,最新推出的iShares Staked Ethereum Trust旨在让投资者同时获得以太坊staking奖励和价格升值潜力。

BlackRock's Approach to Crypto ETFs: A Discerning Strategy

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with $14 trillion in assets, is taking a measured approach to its entry into the cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF) market, according to Robert Mitchnick, the company's head of digital assets. Speaking on CNBC's Crypto World segment on Friday, Mitchnick acknowledged that some of the more experimental structures in crypto ETFs might appeal to certain investors, but emphasized that BlackRock would continue to be cautious.

BlackRock's Initial Crypto ETF: Staking Ether

BlackRock recently launched the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust (ETHB), a staking-focused ETF that allows investors to capture Ethereum staking rewards alongside potential price appreciation. The new product, which debuted with significant trading volume and inflows, marks BlackRock's second Ether product, following the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA), which has garnered almost $12 billion in inflows since its launch in July 2024.

Investor Interest in Diversified Crypto Assets

Mitchnick noted that while Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) continue to dominate investor interest, "pockets of interest" exist in other cryptocurrencies as well. BlackRock is evaluating these assets as conditions evolve and as the market develops in terms of maturity, liquidity, scale, and use cases. The company's approach to including these assets in its iShares ETF portfolio remains "very discerning."

Upcoming Bitcoin Income-Generating ETF

BlackRock is also planning to launch a new Bitcoin Premium Income ETF. This product will sell covered call options on Bitcoin futures, generating yield through premiums. However, this strategy trades away potential upside from investing directly in BlackRock’s flagship iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which closely mirrors Bitcoin's spot price.

Long-Term Holders in Bitcoin ETFs

Mitchnick highlighted that investors in BlackRock’s flagship Bitcoin product, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), have been "disproportionately long-term buy and hold" investors. Despite strong selling pressure elsewhere in the Bitcoin ecosystem, these investors have often opportunistically bought into the dips, contributing to the product’s inflows exceeding $63 billion since its January 2024 launch.

BlackRock’s Strategic Investment Approach

Overall, BlackRock's strategy in the crypto ETF space is characterized by a deliberate and cautious approach. While the company recognizes the potential of innovative structures and other crypto assets, it is committed to maintaining a measured and discerning approach in its product offerings.
