Fanous, along with his father, Emad Fanous, a veteran CTO, have launched Nyne, a startup designed to serve as an intelligence layer for AI agents.

Raising the Bar with $5.3 Million Seed Funding

On Friday, Nyne secured $5.3 million in seed funding, led by Wischoff Ventures and South Park Commons, with contributions from several angel investors, including Gil Elbaz, co-founder of Applied Semantics and pioneer of Google AdSense. Nichole Wischoff, founder of Wischoff Ventures, emphasized the unique challenge Nyne is addressing. "This is an oddly hard problem to solve," she noted, highlighting the difficulty of aggregating and analyzing disparate data points from various digital sources.

Addressing the Limitations of Current AI Solutions

Michael Fanous contends that while Google's ad targeting appears to solve similar issues, its success is rooted in its exclusive access to user data across multiple platforms. "Google’s ‘secret sauce’ is its proprietary data," Fanous explained. Nyne, on the other hand, deploys millions of agents to analyze public digital footprints and applies machine learning to this data. Nyne's approach allows it to triangulate information about a person, not just from major social networks like Instagram, Facebook, and X, but also from various apps such as SoundCloud and Strava.

Expanding the Scope of AI Agent Understanding

The goal of Nyne is to provide AI agents with a deeper, real-world understanding of customers and potential customers. By connecting seemingly disparate data points, Nyne can provide insights into a person's interests, hobbies, and specific thought patterns. This comprehensive understanding enables agents to make more informed and contextually appropriate decisions. According to Fanous, "I can give them any piece of information about a person that could be useful to make the right next action."

The Potential Market and Strategic Advantages

The market for this type of data is vast and valuable, especially for companies deploying AI agents. For instance, Nyne could help identify when a customer is pregnant and tailor marketing strategies accordingly. This level of precision is something previous adtech companies could not achieve. Nyne aims to provide this level of detail for a broader range of AI agents.

The collaboration between the father-son duo is described as ideal. "I think with co-founders, it becomes easy to walk away when things don't work," Fanous said. "If I have to ping him at three in the morning to finish a launch, I know he’s going to still love me the next day." This mutual support and dedication are crucial for the startup's success.
