In 2022, significant complaints about unsolicited ads through Google’s RCS—primarily via the Google Messages app—led to a temporary pause on business promotions. Although some users still report receiving spam messages, this suggests that the problem persists despite previous efforts.

Airtel's Approach and Concerns

Airtel expressed caution in aligning with Google's RCS until its spam controls could be integrated into traffic routing. The company’s spokesperson stated, "We had not onboarded Google because we first wanted RCS messages to be routed through the Airtel spam filter." Airtel has intensified its anti-spam initiatives over the past year. Its AI systems have blocked more than 71 billion spam calls and 2.9 billion spam messages, contributing to a nearly 69% reduction in fraud-related financial losses.
