On Thursday, Meta announced the new functionality, which provides a preview within the Threads application of how a post would appear on an Instagram Story. Previously, users could only reshare another individual's Threads post to their Instagram Story in a manner similar to sharing someone else's Instagram post. The app also offered tools for distributing posts to one's Instagram Feed or Direct Messages.
Threads, Meta's Twitter-like application, was first introduced in July 2023 and gained a substantial initial user base due to its association with Instagram. Users were required to authenticate with their Instagram credentials during the sign-up process, allowing Threads to populate account information such as username, bio, photo, verification status, and followers. By tapping once, users could immediately follow accounts they already followed on Instagram, and those not on Threads would receive a notification that someone had added them.
Since its launch, Meta has utilized its other prominent social platforms to continue expanding Threads' user base, including displaying popular Threads posts on Facebook and incorporating a carousel of Threads posts into Instagram users' feeds. The company also facilitated cross-posting from Instagram and Facebook to Threads, contributing to increased adoption. These strategies have proven successful.
